Wildwoods has been making bio diesel for the past 4 years with limited success. We purchased a processing machine and have been collecting the used restaurant oil in town. We then convert it to diesel that we mix in with our big farm tanks to use in all of our vehicles.
The problem has been getting enough supply of used oil that isn’t too contaminated. After several failed attempts do to contamination I decided to grow 75 acres of canola in hopes of pressing the oil to use in the processor. This will take some trial and error for us but that would easily produce enough diesel to run the whole season. I am pretty confident this will save money in the long term but I have been saying that for 4 years and unfortunately I’m not much further ahead. I am going in this direction for the pure pleasure of growing our fuel.
